Explanations:The Swachhata Darpan Awards are part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign launched by the Government of India in 2014 to improve the cleanliness and hygiene of the country. The initiative aims to eliminate open defecation, improve solid waste management, and promote cleanliness across urban and rural areas. The Swachhata Darpan Awards are given to districts that have shown significant progress in achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
These awards are based on various parameters that assess the performance of districts in terms of cleanliness, waste management, and overall sanitation. The parameters include the construction of toilets, the management of solid and liquid waste, and the overall cleanliness of public places. The awards are intended to recognize and encourage districts that have made substantial efforts to improve their sanitation and hygiene standards.
In 2019, the Swachhata Darpan Awards were given to several districts across India, with Puri, a district in the state of Odisha, being one of the recipients. Puri was recognized for its significant progress in achieving the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The district demonstrated a high level of commitment to improving sanitation and hygiene, which led to its selection for the award.
It is important to note that the Swachhata Darpan Awards are not limited to large or prominent cities or districts. Smaller districts like Puri can also achieve significant improvements in sanitation and hygiene, making them eligible for such awards. The awards are based on the performance of the district in meeting the set criteria, rather than the size or prominence of the district.
