Explanations:Mission Bhagiratha is a significant water supply project that was launched by the state of Telangana in India. The primary objective of this project is to provide clean and safe drinking water to every household in the state. The project aims to ensure that every village and city household has access to potable water, thereby improving the overall health and well-being of the population.
The project is named after Bhagiratha, a legendary king in Indian mythology who is credited with bringing the river Ganges to Earth to purify the souls of his ancestors. Similarly, Mission Bhagiratha aims to bring clean water to the people of Telangana, addressing the critical issue of water scarcity and ensuring that every household has access to safe drinking water.
The water supply for Mission Bhagiratha is sourced from two major rivers in the region: the Krishna and the Godavari. These rivers are crucial water resources for the state, and the project aims to harness their water to provide a reliable and sustainable source of drinking water. The project involves the construction of pipelines, water tanks, and other infrastructure to ensure that water can be distributed efficiently to all parts of the state.
Understanding the context of Mission Bhagiratha is important for students preparing for competitive examinations, as it is a significant development project that reflects the state's commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens. The project is a prime example of how state governments in India are addressing critical issues such as water scarcity and public health through targeted initiatives.
It is essential to recognize that Mission Bhagiratha is specific to Telangana and not to be confused with similar projects in other states. Each state in India may have its own initiatives to address local challenges, and it is important to be aware of these projects to understand the broader context of development efforts across the country.
